About
Schools Finder brings published New York City school statistics into one profile per school, with each figure's definition and reporting period.
Why
The City publishes detailed school data across several separate files. The difficulty is that they are split across a quality report dataset, an enrollment workbook, three admissions directories, and a set of files whose locations change each year. The formats assume you already know what a DBN is and which report type a school files.
This site combines those sources and shows the definition and the reporting period next to every value.
Scope
The site shows published school statistics and their reporting periods. It does not calculate an overall school score.
For applications, use MySchools, the City's admissions system. This site does not determine eligibility or make offers.
Language
English only, for now. The City publishes in nine languages and MySchools is translated. This site has not been translated or reviewed for other languages.
Built
Python, pandas, requests, openpyxl and XlsxWriter prepare and validate the data. The website uses static HTML, CSS and JavaScript, served from GitHub Pages, with MapLibre GL for maps.
Independence
No agency reviewed this site.
